Operating since 2017, this 242-room property blends Thai-inspired aesthetics with modern city luxury. It caters heavily to Singaporean couples and weekend warriors looking for a resort vibe right across the causeway. However, reaching this oasis requires navigating some of the worst logistical friction in downtown JB. You need a high tolerance for chaos before you ever see a welcome drink.

Let us start with the drive. If you are crossing the border in your own vehicle, brace yourself. The hotel sits squarely on Jalan Trus, directly adjacent to the CIQ footprint. The surrounding one-way streets frequently bottleneck. Throw in the heavy construction and road diversions for the upcoming RTS link, and the final 500 meters of your drive becomes an exercise in extreme vehicular patience. It is a gridlocked nightmare during peak weekend hours.

Parking here is another annoying friction point. The hotel is positioned atop the Zenith Lifestyle Centre. Guests do get access to covered on-site self-parking, but unlike most of its direct competitors, parking here is not free. You will be hit with a fee of RM10 to RM12 per night. If you want to skip the multi-story spiral, valet parking is available at a premium rate, but the extra cash might be worth saving your sanity.

EV owners, take note. Do not expect to plug in and charge while you sleep. There is zero dedicated EV charging infrastructure stationed within the Zenith or Amari parking facility itself. Tesla and EV drivers must rely on external JomCharge networks located across the street at nearby City Square or Komtar JBCC. This means dropping your car off elsewhere, charging, and walking back, which entirely defeats the purpose of hotel convenience.

Ditching the car does not magically solve your logistical headaches. The hotel is a short five to ten-minute geographical walk from the CIQ complex, but it completely lacks the seamless, unbroken indoor integration of rivals like the Holiday Inn. From the CIQ, pedestrians must utilize the elevated sheltered link bridge to City Square Mall. Once inside, you navigate the weekend crowds, head downstairs, and exit at ground level onto Jalan Wong Ah Fook.

This is where the pedestrian journey gets genuinely hostile. Guests must cross a busy, multi-lane road via a pedestrian traffic light to reach the Zenith Lifestyle Centre. There is zero weather protection here. This final street crossing is entirely exposed to the elements. If a tropical downpour hits, you will be soaked to the bone before reaching the ground-floor elevator. It is a high-risk dash with luggage in tow.

Once you survive the crossing, the arrival sequence is slightly disjointed. You enter a ground-floor lift lobby at Level 1 just to be ferried up to the main lobby on Level 6. Thankfully, check-in operations are standard for a five-star asset. Adequate staffing generally prevents severe queuing during standard hours, allowing you to grab your keycards and finally decompress.

The rooms themselves are the property's saving grace. Ranging from 32 to 41 sqm, they are generously sized and feature upscale, spa-inspired bathrooms. The Thai-inflected design language holds up well against the generic corporate feel of other downtown hotels. The beds are plush, the soundproofing does a decent job blocking out the RTS construction below, and the footprint gives you plenty of room to breathe.

However, a brutal reality check is necessary regarding the upkeep. After several years of heavy weekend usage, the property is beginning to show minor wear-and-tear. Deep-dive reviews and recent stays reveal isolated maintenance issues, particularly in the bathrooms. Inconsistent housekeeping standards occasionally break the illusion of luxury. It is a very good hotel, but it lacks the flawless, white-glove five-star sheen it once possessed.

The amenities do a lot of heavy lifting to restore that premium vibe. The Level 8 outdoor pool is a stunning focal point, heavily supported by the Dip Bar which serves up excellent evening cocktails and surprisingly high-quality satay. The next morning, the Amaya Food Gallery breakfast buffet delivers. Featuring a vast spread, live cooking stations, and occasional live music, it firmly establishes itself as one of the best breakfast offerings in the city center.
