Da Cheng Lok Lok (KSL) is a bustling, late-night staple in Taman Abad that draws massive crowds for its affordable skewers and unexpectedly good wanton mee. While the lok lok itself receives mixed reviews regarding consistency, the sheer variety and vibrant street-side energy make it a hit. Expect heavy traffic and horn-honking at this busy junction, but it remains a solid, wallet-friendly supper spot for Singaporeans crossing the causeway.

The Insider Review

Hit this spot early. Operating from 6:30 PM to 2:00 AM most nights (and until 2:30 AM on weekends, with Fridays starting at 5:30 PM), Da Cheng Lok Lok gets slammed with crowds right after 7:00 PM. Situated at a busy traffic junction on Jalan Dato Sulaiman, the atmosphere is undeniably chaotic. Expect a soundtrack of honking cars from impatient drivers navigating the severe street congestion. Street parking is virtually nonexistent; save yourself the headache, park at nearby KSL, and just cross the street.

The main event is cheap, fast, and varied. You get a massive selection of skewers fried up quickly. However, execution can be a mixed bag. Multiple patrons note the seasoning is sometimes uneven and the broccoli lacks the ideal crunch. The dipping sauces are plentiful and allow for fun flavor mixing, but germaphobes take note: the sauce stations are left outside uncovered. Despite these quirks, the rapid cooking time and crispy finish keep the tables turning fast, aided by a highly efficient cleaning crew.

Surprisingly, the lok lok might not be the best thing on the menu. The wanton mee steals the show for many, loaded with crispy pork lard that elevates the dish, alongside tasty wantons (though the soup leans heavy on ginger). If you are eyeing the seafood, tread carefully. The BBQ stingray and accompanying seafood like sotong and prawns share the exact same sambal base, which gets repetitive fast. Portions come smothered in ladyfingers, and the stingray is occasionally overcooked. At around 180 RM for a heavy meal for two, it remains a heavily frequented, casual supper joint.
